If you have been thinking about buying a Peugeot, drive home one of these models before the price increase on 1 January 2018 when the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) takes effect.
The VES encourages buyers to choose models that have lower emissions of pollutants and are cleaner overall, in order to further improve ambient air quality and ultimately public health.
Prior to the VES, the Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) was introduced in 2013 to encourage the purchase of low carbon emission vehicles. Since then, the average CO2 emissions of new cars and taxis have decreased by 15 per cent.
With the introduction of the VES, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has added 4 other pollutants besides carbon dioxide (CO2) to its clean air criterion - hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM).
The VES surcharge for a new car will be determined by its worst performing pollutant.
To beat the challenges posed by the VES, why don’t you drive home a Peugeot this Christmas?
