Peugeot 308 GTi – Sporty yet smooth

[10 February 2017, Friday]

Peugeot releases the 308 GTi 1.6 Turbo - a sporty 5-door hatchback for affordable and enjoyable day to day driving, but with the athletic thrill and performance of a 2.0L turbo car. With the promise of Category B performance but with the COE and pricing of Category A, drivers would be hard-pressed to find a more powerful drive at such a price. Combining sleek design with precise technology and engineering, the 308 GTi calls out to the adventure-seeking spirit within and injects a dose of exhilaration into everyday driving.

Award-winning Engine

The 308 GTi is powered by the same engine as the RCZ - a 200hp 1.6L twin-scroll Turbo Engine, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox for maximum driving pleasure. The award-winning direct injection 1.6L engine combines both smooth power and efficiency, offering superbly fast and clear response at low rpm (with 275Nm@1700rpm).

The innovative twin-scroll turbocharger pairs exhaust gases, ensuring maximum flow onto the turbine. Containing a high-pressure direct petrol injection system, the 308 GTi engine improves overall engine efficiency and reduces fuel consumption.

The result is effortless acceleration (0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds), low emissions and superb fuel efficiency (14.5km/litre on EC Combined Cycle).

Sleek and Athletic Exterior

The GTi’s exterior enhancements include a sporty front grille with chrome surrounds, a front bumper with piano black finish and Bi-Xenon directional headlights with black housing. It also features new 18’’ Dark grey alloys, lending a robust, swift look overall.

Sleek, boomerang-shaped front LED Daytime Running Lights provide increased visibility, thus increasing protection, and are brighter and more energy-efficient than ordinary headlights. In addition, Bi-Xenon Headlights offer directional control to enhance visibility when cornering and project beams of light at almost twice the intensity of most conventional halogen headlights. This is despite them using only two-thirds of the energy.

Dual chrome rear exhausts, a piano black rear diffuser and a stylish chrome strip between its rear lights ensure smoother airflow for the 308 GTi. Further, a rear roof spoiler adds to the athletic look of the 308 GTi. These enhancements reduce the flow of air and improve stability at high speeds.

Sporty yet Classy Interior

With the impressive sense of spaciousness and maximum illumination provided by the huge panoramic glass roof and large glass area, the interior of the 308 GTi gives the impression of being larger than actual fact. During more sunny weather, its UV-tinted glass roof and electrically controlled opaque roller blinds block out sunlight and reduce heat.

Function meets style on the dashboard, which is ergonomically designed to put every vital control close at hand, while freeing up space around the driver and front passenger’s knees. White instrument clusters serve to allow for clearer visibility, as well as to add a touch of class to the interior.

The GTi also features front half leather sports seats with the ‘GTi’ logo & red stitching, a flat-bottomed GTi steering wheel, alloy gearknob and aluminium sports pedals, which complete the sporty, adventure-seeking experience, no matter how short the journey.

One never needs to feel too far from either home or the office, with the new WIP Bluetooth audio system that offers an array of features. With Bluetooth, a USB port, auxin, radio and MP3-compatible CD player, one can be assured of a hands-free, convenient, yet completely safe journey at any time.

In addition, the 308 GTi offers a myriad of features for exceptional comfort and functionality, including:

  • Dual-zone air conditioning with rear air-con vents
  • Electric child and window lock
  • Remote closing of windows
  • Multi-function trip computer
  • 60/40 split folding rear seats with ISOFIX attachments
  • Anti-pinch windows
  • Interior alarm
  • Auto dimming rear view mirror

Automatic rain and light sensors

Environmentally-friendly TechnologyWith the option of more gears, the 308 GTi can be driven more often at low engine revs with reduced engine noise, helping to save fuel. In addition, emitting a mere 167g of CO2 per km, this award-winning Euro 5 engine is approved to Euro5 standards, making it one of the most environmentally friendly cars available.

Safety Functions

Always a foremost priority and value of Peugeot, the safety features of the 308 GTi are no less outstanding than its design, as proven from it being awarded the 5-star Euro NCAP. The protective passenger safety cell is designed to absorb maximum frontal crash energy in the event of an accident. It includes six airbags, three impact absorption structures and a collapsible steering column which retracts to prevent the engine and gearbox from being pushed back into the cabin. Other technologies include the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), which is a traction-balancing safety feature to help keep the car stable in times of emergency, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution, which applies a different amount of braking force to individual wheels to keep the car stable.
