PROMOTING GLOBAL GREENING

What you may not know?

Forests actually contain some of our earth’s most active ecosystems, displaying a wide variety of living things such as birds, animals, and plants. Forests are also the basis for more than 5,000 products, from medicine and food to fuel, paper to furniture and clothing. To signalize the importance of forest biodiversity to mankind, the United Nations has designated Year 2011 as the International Year of Forests (IYF).

Although Singapore is a tiny dot on the world map, it has rainforests, freshwater swamp forests, mangrove forests, coastal forests and many many more. In fact, with our tree-lined roads, inter-connecting park linkages, and growing green cover, Singapore is an Urban Forest!

In Singapore, our forests and greenery have a direct impact to our well-being. Our forests and trees not only help us tune up our climate, they also clean our air by absorbing carbon dioxide and dust, lower surface temperatures by shading, and cut down soil erosion.
