1810

The brothers Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot convert the family mill into a steel foundry and plant for manufacturing saw blades. This marks the creation of Peugeot Frères.

1833

Production diversities to include tools and household utensils : band saws, umbrella, frames, coffee grinders, sewing machines…

1858

The lion appears, symbolizing Peugeot.

1882

Presentation of the « Grand Bi », the first bicycle with unevenly sized wheels.

1889

The Paris Universal Exhibition marks the debut of the Brand’s entry into the automobile business, as it presents the first engine-driven vehicle : the steam-powered tricycle.

1900

At the turn of the century, Peugeot is already a leading manufacturer; its catalogue includes 15 models, from 2 to 12 seaters. 

1929

The 201 is born, the first car in the world to be fitted with independent front wheels as standard.

The 201 starts the three digit series, with a zero in the middle, a registered trademark.

1955

The 403, the company’s first collaboration with the Italian designer Pininfarina, exceeds one million sales.

1959

The 403 diesel appears on the scene, the first French mass produced diesel car.

1965

The 204 is launched, Peugeot’s first front-wheel drive car.

1968

Peugeot displays the 504 at the Paris Motor Show; it is named car of the year in 1969.

1975

The 604 is the first car in Europe to offer a turbo diesel engine.

1976

The ten millionth Peugeot comes off the production line.

1982

The Slogan : « The lion goes from strength to strength » heralds a new era.

1983

The 205 is launched, the « sacred number » 5.3 million of which are produced.

1986

With the 205 T16, Peugeot wins its second world rally championship title.

1988

The 405 is named car of the year. The « Adventure Peugeot » museum opens in Sochaux, displaying a collection of tools, objects, cycles, and cars, from the company’s very beginnings to the present day.

1993

Historic success for the 905 as it wins the first three places in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race.

1995

Peugeot adopts a new slogan : « The drive of your life ». With peugeot.com, Peugeot becomes the first European manufacturer to launch a website.

1998

The 206 is launched and is showered with some twenty international awards. Fitted to the 406, the HDi engine (a high pressure direct diesel injection engine) is outstandingly innovative. Peugeot embarks upon an unprecedented environmental sponsorship programs by funding the creation of a carbon sink in Brazil.

2000

The 607 is launched becoming the world’s first vehicle to be fitted with an exhaust particle filter.

Peugeot launches the 206 CC creating a huge craze for coupé cabriolets. 

2001

The 307 heralds a new era in car architecture and is voted « Car of the Year 2002 ».

2002

The 807, 206 SW and 307 SW models are launched. Peugeot carries off its third consecutive world rally championship title with the 206 WRC.

2003

The 206 RC and the 307 CC are launched. The forty millionth Peugeot comes off the production line.

2004

Peugeot is back in China with the launch of the 307 Sedan. The 407 saloon and SW are launched. Peugeot sells over 2 million vehicles.

2005 

The millionth Peugeot fitted with a particle filter (FAP) is sold. The launch of the 1007 extends Peugeot’s numbering system.

The 107 and 407 coupé are launched.

The 206 beats the production record for a Brand model with 5,407,000 units.

2006

Peugeot gradually manages distribution again of its range of bicycles in Europe. The 207 is launched in April, and voted « Car of the Year » in Spain. The 206 Sedan manufactured in Iran is launched.

With the new Boxer, Peugeot begins a complete overhaul of its commercial vehicle range. 

2007

6 new vehicles are launched, amongst them the new Expert models, the 207 CC and RC and the 4007.

Peugeot relaunches its « Re-start » sporting programme and commits its 908 HDi FAP to competing in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race.

2008

The 308 range is extended as the 308 SW, the 308 Six-speed manual gearbox and the 308 THP 175 are marketed

Launch of the Bipper Tepee and the Partner Tepee, Which are a new take on the ludospace concept introduced by Peugeot.

The Partner LUV is launched.
